Surrendering
Our Destiny to God There
were not a few times that I've been overwhelmed by life's struggles. And
during those times, I'm always reminded to continue to surrender to
Him... our Creator... our Provider... our Friend. In
fact, through His grace I've accepted whatever destiny I and my family
will have... with Him by our side. For it is our Friend who says:
"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock; if any man hear my voice,
and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he
with me." (Rev 3:20) Perhaps,
the most vivid part of my life where God really demonstrated His
guidance and control over our destiny was the day that He committed
Nanette to me, and I to her... I
was courting Nanette for more than a year, even though she had her eyes
fixed on some other guy (her "crush").
Because of my "kakulitan", she reached a point of
confusion... confused as to who really is the man that she should spend
the rest of her life with. So,
being a devout Catholic, Nanette went to the Baclaran church every
Wednesday evening to say a novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. There
she asked our Lady and her Son for guidance... asking for a specific
sign (a "sign" that she herself gave, praying that the Lord
will use that "sign" to remove any confusion and give her
guidance). I
of course was not aware of her novena... and continued my courtship. On
my way back to the office one afternoon (Nanette and I were
officemates), I picked up my "pasalubong" for Nanette.
When I gave it to her, our officemates seemed astonished! I later
learned that they knew about Nanette's novena and the "sign"
she asked for. What
was it she asked for? Well, she asked the Lord and His Mother to take
control... calling on the strength of her faith with God's grace, she
sought her destiny -- the first to give her something that is colored
blue is the man that heaven wants her to marry! Not
by luck, but by the controlling Hand of the Lord, in that fateful day I
bought and gave Nanette a bag of candies - a bag of blue candies, and
each is also individually wrapped in blue!!! Five
years after our marriage, Nanette and I joined the Couples For Christ...
continuously striving to be faithful servants and soldiers of Christ. I
believe the Lord charted our destiny... gratefully, we surrender to Him. Nanette
and I pray that we'll always say, as the scripture says: "For we
walk by faith, not by sight." (2 Cor 5:7) |
